Child Abuse Forum

October 10, 2008 

CFSI along with the Child Abuse and Family Violence Institute (CAFVI) held a Forum on the “Forensics of Child Abuse Detection: Recognition, Reporting and Risks” on October 10, 2008. Facilitated by CAFVI Director Colleen Friend, PhD, the forum focused on the definition of child abuse problems and identifying new collaborative strategies.

Darlene Kuba, DPA, spoke on behalf of the Gilbert W. Lindsay Endowed Public Policy Forum in Forensic Science.

Representatives from UCLA, Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, Head Deputies from both the Family Violence and the Sex Crimes Divisions of the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office spoke on behalf of decision and policy makers.

CSULA faculty members Denise Herz, PhD, and Karen Kalmbach, PhD, served as reporters. The event concluded with the speakers taking questions from the audience that consisted of CSULA faculty and students from Nursing, Social Work, Communication Disorders, and Criminal Justice classes and the general public.
